Ralph Ficker was born in 1984 in the Netherlands. He completed his studies at the Maastricht Academy of Music under Will Sanders and Willy Bessems. In addition, he had lessons with Professor Markus Maskunity in Hannover. During his studies, he was a member of the Schleswig-Holstein Festival Orchestra and the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra. Following an internship with the Bochum Symphony Orchestra, and a fixed-term contract with the Lower Rhine Symphony Orchestra of Mönchengladbach-Krefeld, he was awarded a tenured position as 2nd horn player in the Lower Saxony State Orchestra of Hannover. Since 2011 he is 2nd Horn player in the State Opera of Hamburg/Philharmonic State Orchestra of Hamburg. He also teaches Horn at the Hochschule für Musik Theater und Medien in Hannover. In addition, he has participated in projects with the NDR Symphony Orchestra Hamburg, the Konzerthaus Orchestra Berlin, the NDR Radio Philharmonic Orchestra Hannover, the Bavarian State Orchestra Munich, and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra Amsterdam.
Since October 2016 Ralph Ficker is a french horn teacher at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz in Aachen, in collaboration with Professor Paul van Zelm and the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln.
