The application takes place online via the muvac platform.

First of all, create a profile at muvac and provide all the information about your CV. You may upload all the required documents under the "Documents" tab and your personal profile and, if necessary, you may integrate audio and video recordings under the "Media" tab. To do so, upload your video files to one of the external platforms supported by muvac (YouTube, Vimeo or Youku) and then deposit your link to your videos in your profile. 

After that, apply for the desired degree programme (vacancy) via muvac . All information relevant for the application will then be requested online. 

As far as you have to submit video files within the scope of a  digital preselection, it is absolutely necessary for you to add the link from your muvac profile to your application in muvac.

Provide missing documents exclusively via muvac later.

Please prepare the following documents for your online application and upload them as a PDF or clearly legible image file to muvac:

1. University entrance qualification:
   - Evidence of higher education entrance qualification (Abitur [baccalaureate]certificate / admission to the Abitur and/or of prior training recognised as an equivalent)
   - if you do not have a higher education entrance qualification, the last school report for the assessment procedure of an outstanding artistic talent - in case of applications for Master's degree programmes: evidence of a completed Bachelor degree according to the Qualifying Examination Regulations or, if this has not yet been completed, a current certificate of study.
   - or for students from abroad: all documents and certificates with respect to the school and or university attendance abroad.
2. List of pieces/works prepared for the aptitude test according to the Aptitude Test Regulations.
3. Evidence of payment of the participation fee for the application procedure (see below).
4. Curriculum vitae.

The application is exclusively an online application. Application documents submitted as hard copies will not be considered.

What is an aptitude test?
A passed aptitude test is evidence for your artistic aptitude.

Where will the aptitude test take place?
Once the complete online application has been finished, you will receive an admission to the aptitude test including the exact test dates from the study secretariat of the Cologne University of Music and Dance [Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln]. 

How does the aptitude test proceed?
There are different procedures for the Bachelor and Master degree programmes. You may refer to them in the particular aptitude test regulations (see Range of studies and Downloads) for the requirements of the aptitude test. 
Also, you may refer to the pages of the Zentrum für zeitgenössichen Tanz [Centre for Contemporary Dance] in the information on the application procedures for Bachelor of Arts Dance and Master of Arts Dance Sciences.

Useful information:

• We advise contacting your preferred lecturer at the time of your registration to the aptitude test at the latest. This is not applicable to the dance subject.
• The major lecturers are available as contact persons for questions regarding the contents of the test. 
• There is a lot going on at the university during the weeks of the aptitude test. You will have rooms available for auditioning / get yourself into voice.
• The number of exercises is limited. Please agree on your times for exercise with each other and show consideration for each other. 
• There will be an information desk in the entrance hall during the aptitude test weeks; employees will be available there for all questions and will help orient yourself in the university.

The Cologne University of Music and Dance with its campuses in Cologne, Aachen and Wuppertal requests a fee of € 50.00 from every applicant for participation in the admission procedure (it has to be paid only once in case of an application for several degree courses).

The payment has to be proved in the form of a bank statement at the time of the online application and must be uploaded as a file to muvac. Please refer to the above-mentioned information under "Step 1: Online application” to this effect.

Refund

Please note that a refund of the fee is basically ruled out, this will also be applicable if the application is withdrawn. The fee will be refunded if reasons of capacity prevent the university from a short-term provision of study places for the course of studies you applied for.

Studies at that the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln [Cologne University of Music and Dance] require a certificate of the higher education entrance qualification (Abitur). This may be replaced with a certificate which has been recognised as equivalent by a competent governmental authority.

An admission to all artistic and artistic-pedagogical degree programmes at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln [Cologne University of Music and Dance] requires a subject-specific aptitude test.

There are special admission conditions for the Master of Arts in Musicology, Master of Arts in Music Education and Master of Arts in Dance Studies as well as the Master of Education in Teaching at Grammar Schools and Comprehensive Schools.

Studies without A-Levels [Abitur]

In the case of special artistic talent it is also possible to begin the studies at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln [Cologne University of Music and Dance] without the specified certificate (Abitur). To this effect, you must have proved your outstanding artistic talent in a special artistic aptitude test. In such a case your completed attendance of school will suffice.

International applicants

Furthermore, applicants for studies from abroad must prove linguistic proficiency of the German language since language skills are indispensable for successful studies in Germany.

Guest students may be admitted to individual courses (general lectures) within the scope of the available study places. Admissions are granted each for one semester. Guest students obtain a "guest student certificate" which entitles them to attend the specified courses. Guest students are not entitled to individual lessons and are not entitled to an exercise room in the university. Guest students are not insured in a health scheme. Deductions in fare are not granted. It is not possible for them to take exams and to receive certificates. The application as a guest student is possible with this document.
